The vampire legend originated from Slavic folklore in the Balkans and Eastern Europe. In these legends, a vampire is a corpse that has risen from the grave to feed on human blood. But over the past 100 years, with the continuous adaptation of novels, movies and popular culture, the common image of vampires has gradually evolved into a kind of fantasy creatures that must drink blood to maintain their vitality, move at night, and have supernatural powers.

In traditional Eastern European folklore, the corpse that became a vampire usually died during life for special reasons, and the reasons vary from folklore to folklore.

To prevent the dead from becoming vampires, special burials were performed, such as being buried face down, placing scythe beside the body to drive away demons intent on occupying the body, placing crosses on the body, and so on.
